Child Care Group Leader

STATUS: Exempt, 25 to 30 hours per week
DEPARTMENT: School-Age Child Care
REPORTS TO: School-Age Child Care Site Director
SUPERVISES: n/a

OVERALL SCOPE:
The Child Care Group Leader assists the Child Care Site Director in planning and administering a school-age child care program.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Group Leader reports directly to the School-Age Child Care Site Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Child Care Site Director in planning, coordinating, and administering a child care program to meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of school-age children, ensuring the care and protection of the children.
  • Assist the Child Care Site Director in ensuring that all child care regulations are met.
  • Under the direction of the Child Care Site Director, supervise child care staff and food services as needed.
  • Read and understand the YWCA Personnel Manual as it pertains to his/her position and responsibilities

  • Maintain familiarity with established YWCA policies on child abuse and/or neglect, HIV-positive children and staff, and universal health precautions.
  • Meet Office of Child Care Licensing and Regulation standards.
  • Assist in the coordination and administration of programs for students, trainees, and volunteers, using the site as a field placement.
  • Work in collaboration with Site Director, parents, and community resources to improve and enhance the overall quality of the program.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend YWCA organization-wide events, such as the annual meeting and staff retreats.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Child Care Site Director and/or the Director of School-Age Programs.
  • Complete 12 clock hours of continued training per year, including at least 6 clock hours of core knowledge training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Be at least 19 years old.
  2. Have a high school diploma or GED.
  3. Have 6 semester hours or 90 clock hours of approved pre-employment training.
  4. Have approved pre-employment training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public.
  5. Have at least one of the following:
    • 400 hours of supervised work experience primarily with school-age children in a licensed child care center, public or private school, or in a recreation and parks program or similar setting; or
    • 400 hours of experience caring for school-age children as a registered family child care provider; or
    • 1 year of college; or
    • a combination of experience and college that combined equal at least 1 year
  6. Be certified in CPR and Standard First Aid.
  7. Successfully complete a criminal background check.
  8. Be committed to the mission and vision of the YWCA Greater Baltimore Area

The successful candidate will also be required to pass a physical exam.

The YWCA may be able to start a potential employee by requesting a variance on some of the qualifications listed above.

  • Compensation: $8.00
